Installation and Merchandising: ASDA MVG Audit

We worked with supermarket giant Asda to deliver a major shop refit across 244 sites. This was a multi-brand entertainment category refit, in which CJ Retail Solutions was tasked with ensuring interactive music, video and games were secure and operational for in-store consumer demonstration.

To achieve this huge retail store development, over £2m worth of electronic equipment needed to be stored in a fully secure ‘lock down’ area within the central CJ Retail Solutions’ warehouse. This consisted of 1,200 tablets, 100 laptops and 711 static phones.

A dedicated IT and warehouse team were deployed to scan and manage stock around the clock, holding high value products and overnight working.

As with any item of huge value, a high degree of client co-ordination was required for the delivery of the stock. Out-of-hours periods were taken into account and weekend trading was secured ahead of dispatch. Additionally, confidentiality agreements were signed with each member of the CJ Retail Solutions team.


To maximise the retail sales volumes within the MVG (music, video, games) sector through a re-allocation of space and delivering demonstration opportunities to ASDA customers.


  • Provision of a dedicated project manager with daily real-time reporting via a bespoke client portal
  • De-merchandise existing MVG area
  • Ensure all fixtures are re-layed according to the new planogram
  • Flash demo software onto laptops, mobile phones and tablets by in-house IT team
  • Pick, pack and distribute POP and display shelving, plus demo models, to each store according to store-specific requirements, varying across the estate
  • Installation of demo models and security fixings
  • Merchandise accessories
  • Complete project within a pre-agreed six day period, using 20 x two-man teams completing two stores per night per team.
  • Photograph completed work in each store and upload to client portal, accompanied by store manager signature, in real time.


The result was a huge collaborative approach across each sector within the CJ Retail Solutions’ team. Each shop installation refit was completed on time, and quality control was undertaken during site visits to ensure 100 per cent compliance with Asda’s store development policies.
